This Theban goddess, the wife of Amun and mother of Khons, was revered as the mother of a god and was associated with motherhood. Pharaohs built

a luxurious temple to this goddess next to the great temple of Amun, near the modern day Egyptian city of Luxor. The temple of Mut is called the Temple of Luxor. These two temples are second only to the pyramids in

popularity. Mut was shown as a woman with a vulture skin on her head, wearing the

crown of Upper Egypt, or as a lioness.
